Girl, You Better Don’t!
Affirmation is the act of confirming that something is true.
Affirmation is a positive statement or judgement.
We often tend to seek affirmation from others who are close to us. We just feel like we need that “attagirl” to show encouragement, approval or admiration when we have done something that we feel is deserving of being acknowledged. When it doesn’t happen the way we imagined it would happen, we tend to feel defeated. Girl, you better don’t let anyone steal your joy!
Have you ever been so excited to share an accomplishment with your family and close friends just to feel like the air was let out of your balloon by their response? You don’t know if you should feel disappointed, angry or just plain mad! You think, is this how Jesus felt when he wasn’t received by His own? Although others offer congratulations, it’s just something about those closest to you being in your corner. Girl, you better don’t let their response affect your happiness!
Even though you celebrate the success of others, for some reason it may not be reciprocated when it comes to your accomplishments. Just remember that your self-worth is not determined by someone else’s opinion of you. Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world. Too many times you allow others to put a damper on your happiness. You can be all excited, feeling on top of the world, but find yourself slowly sinking when you share with close family and the response is indifference or even silence….crickets!! You’re tempted to ask did you hear what I just said, or did you read what I just showed you?
Girl, you better don’t let anyone else’s opinion or reaction outweigh God’s opinion of you. Why do we feel compelled to ask others how we did? Although God has equipped us with everything we need to teach the class, write the book, make the presentation, we find ourselves asking someone else for their thoughts. God said you are more than a conqueror and your victory is in me!
Girl, you better don’t let anyone’s lack of encouragement mess with your self-esteem. Instead of allowing it to bring you down, use it as a catalyst to push you that much further. Hold your head up and keep on keeping on! Sister girl God sees you and He knows you have what it takes to be successful!
Girl, you better don’t let anyone rain on your parade, because your future’s so bright you have to wear shades!! Shine on sister girl!!
